Some Recent DEI-related Events and Initiatives
- MISQ Scholarly Development Academy
- First Cohort was initiated in early 2022 with Untenured Female Scholars from around the world. Three virtual sessions (in two different time zones) were held this year (Plenary session in February, Paper Development session in March, and Career Development session in October). An end-of-year celebration was held at ICIS (December 2022).
- The Second Cohort was initiated in 2023, and it focused on scholars from the Global South.
- Listening Sessions
- MISQ EIC and DEI Director have been regularly holding (and will continue to hold in the future) listening sessions with scholars from underrepresented groups around the world (e.g., Indian IS Scholars, Korean IS Scholars, German Women IS scholars, Scholars from the Middle East and Africa, Scholars from Brazil and South America, members of Iranian AIS Chapter)
- MISQ continues to participate in other discipline-level DEI events and initiatives and the MISQ EIC plays an active ambassadorial role in these efforts.
- For example, MISQ was invited to the AIS’ DEI panel at ICIS 2021. Watch the video that conveys MISQ Editorial Board’s core mission and proposed actions on DEI.
- MISQ EIC and DEI Director published an article titled "MISQ’s DEI Initiatives: A Continuing Journey" for the Learned Publishing, 2023, Vol. 36.
- Collaborative Efforts

Workshop on “The Journey to a Successful Publication: A Reflection on the Revision Process” and a panel with the AIS Doctoral College were conducted in April 2023.
- Workshop for MISQ Board on “DEI Best Practices and Paths Forward” in collaboration with APA will be held online on November 2, 2023.

- New Flexible Accommodation Guidelines for Senior Editors and Associated Editors were developed and approved.
- New “Mentorship track to Publication” for authors from select regions was developed and supported by MISQ, and its implementation is being considered.
